Fort Collins and Loveland Schools are Closed for the Second Day in a Row

Poudre School District in Fort Collins and Thompson School District in Loveland have cancelled school Wednesday for the second day in a row due to weather forecasts for extreme cold and a forecasted 8 degree temperature.

All after-school activities in both schools districts scheduled on Wednesday are canceled as well.

Poudre School Districts’s decision is based on continuing concerns for student safety, a statement from Poudre Sschool Districts. Approximately half of Poudre School Districts’s 25,000 students rely on buses to get to and from school in Fort Collins, and extremely cold temperatures will make it difficult to operate buses safely. In addition, temperatures are predicted to be colder Wednesday than today, creating unsafe conditions for students who walk to school

Poudre School District is notifying parents via e-mail and robo calls. Its website, www.psdschools.org has experienced technical difficulties this afternoon.

The Thompson School District website, www.thompson.k12.co.us, said all district office personnel are required to report to work Wednesday.

I understand where they are coming from but it was beautiful today with sun, it was just freezing cold. I think for all those concerned it is a safety issue however at some point I think they need to go back to school. The Poudre Valley School District only has 3 allocated Snow Days, what happens in March when it is really snowing?? I would like to know.
