About Severance Colorado

Severance originally began as a rural, agricultural city dedicated to cattle ranching, raising livestock, and growing fruits and vegetables. A man by the name of Bruce Ruth opened a bar/dance hall in Severance in 1957 and created a novelty item called the Rocky Mountain Oyster. The community began to grow as more individuals came through the city and enjoyed its incomparable views and plains.

However, it wasn’t enough to make the town grow at a larger rate and the population began to decrease between 1957 and the late 1980’s. The city really began hitting massive growth during the 1990’s when Northern Colorado cities Fort Collins and Greeley began expanding at an exponential rate. Since Severance was quite close to these large Northern Colorado destinations that many people were moving to, many home buyers became aware of the town. More people began moving to Severance as home buyers realized how peaceful and wonderful the Severance lifestyle is.

Today, Severance has a population of about 625 people living in community developed homes or out in the country through various winding and twisting roads. The city is only within 25 minutes of Fort Collins, which houses the nationally recognized college Colorado State University and several large companies such as HP, AMD, and Otter Box.

In the last 10 years, Severance has quadrupled in size so you know that the homes are a good investment.
