How Do You Choose A Realtor?

Most people search the Internet scrolling some cool houses and think maybe we should go look at some? Can we buy a house? Let’s stop wasting our money on rent. What do you do next? Well, you need to get your ducks in a row so to speak. Yes, you can go peruse open houses if you wish but this will be a lot of effort and usually not really good results. You need a Realtor helping you with your home search. Generally after just a 10 minute conversation I can tell exactly where you will want to live dependent on price range of course. This comes with experience and knowing the market like the back of my hand. Usually you can just tell me a street name and I know exactly the neighborhood you are talking about. There’s a lot of information that will come at you. You need to absorb it all like a sponge and then boom we plan our attack on getting you the best home.

You may also be looking at a lot of different Realtor websites. Why do you chooses a certain Realtor? I just did this myself. We bought in a state where I do not have my real estate license so we had to enlist the help of some local Realtors. How did I pick who we were going to work with and why.

First off you will be spending a lot of time with this person, so you must like them. I’m not saying they won’t do a good job for you if you don’t like them it just makes the process a lot more fun. So why not enjoy the Realtor you are working with. That’s probably my biggest thing. Look at their profiles, see if you have anything in common. If their profile tells you nothing about them and is just the common gibberish of I love real estate and I will do a good job for you, forget it. I need someone who travels, likes to go to restaurants, see’s the sights, embraces life. I need someone who is a bulldog and will go to bat for me as my buyer’s agent or listing agent. I need someone who won’t back down and say oh it’s not really done like that here. Believe me there are plenty of Realtors who will say that just because they are lazy.

Second. Obviously they need to have experience. We all start somewhere, but there is something to be said for a Realtor who has many, many years of experience and is writing contracts almost daily. I have 18 years myself. You get out of practice, like a seasoned athlete. If you are not actively in the market looking at houses with buyers and sellers, you will get rusty. I write contracts weekly, network with my fellow Realtors and am super involved in my community. I can usually find answers out for you if I don’t know the answer within a day or so.

Obviously we all do the same thing. It’s the nature of the beast. Some of us just are more personable and get things done more efficiently and with less headaches.

So what are you looking for in a Realtor?
